Mailbox Management Audience Analysis
Students are state employees who
come from throughout the state of Kentucky.
They will receive training in one of the two training facilities in the L&N Building. The facilities are on the
fifth and tenth floors, and both have a state of the art computer lab that will
accommodate twelve students. There will be ten students per class for the
Mailbox Management lesson. Students who make up the classes for this lesson
plan are expected to be heterogeneous in almost every respect, including
experience level. Experience level does not equate to expertise, however.
Education and reading levels vary, but all students are capable of
understanding and speaking English very well. Attitudes toward training will be
varied, ranging from opposition, to reluctance, and finally, to positive
anticipation. Age range will vary from 20 to sixty years. The older students
may be expected to offer more resistance to training, perhaps, but this can
vary by the location that students come from. Employees working at the L&N Building may offer more resistance than
employees in the counties, where there seems to be a more positive attitude.
Education levels vary, with few students having college degrees. The majority
of students with college degrees are in supervisory positions, but some of
these people acquired their degrees twenty years ago, before they had the
opportunity to gain computer skills that are necessary in today’s workplace. Eighty-five
percent of the students will be female, with at least fifty percent of these
married.
Although the training will be remedial in nature,
most students never had the opportunity for initial training where they would
have acquired good habits at the start of their career.
