Alien Spider

I call this the "Alien in an Evening Gown". A spider created a web outside my back dook and wove some breathtaking webs. We did not use the back door for a month because we did not want to disturb the webs and they were so beautiful. I did not discover the "alien" pattern in my picture until this class. When I played with the image in fireworks I enlarged the picture from 35% to 800%. It was at this point that I noticed the pattern on the spider's shell. It looked like a female alien in an evening dress with her hands on her hips. I cropped the spider to get her shell and used the lasso tool in Fireworks to isolate the shell. I used the "Select New Bitmap via Cut" and then selected "Fit the Image to Canvas". I noticed that the magnificent yellow color on the spider had washed out to white. To get back to the original color of the spider I took the hue down slightly (-8) and raised the saturation to +30. I had red splotches on the white portion and managed to eliminate the worst of these using the eyedropper tool to find the shade of yellow that I needed. I did other cleanup with the paintbrush, especially on the dark portion of the shell. It had prominent red and green patches that were not on the original picture as a result of turning up the saturation level and blowing up the picture. If you look closely at the Alien's righrt shoulder, you can see where I enlarged the central yellow portion. I did not do anything to the left shoulder, but the right shoulder had only a tiny splotch of yellow before I enlarged it.
